Crescent Moon and Aurora …. 10th May 2024 Brechiek Ynysek Syllan. Graphite on artist quality pressed and prepared card. 25×48.5 cm £1500

Aurora 10th May 2024 Brechiek Ynysek Syllan. This was an extraordinary experinece. I started watching the aurora soon after 11 pm and continued to watch the aurora until 3 am. At it’s peak the aurora covered over half the sky and some colour was visible to the unaided eye mainly greens and pinks. This series of drawings are the begining of a series of artworks that will include large oil paintings. The artwork is unconventionally framed, it has mounting fittings on the back but no physically surrounding frame.

New painting

‘Crescent Moon Earth Shine and Venus’ Oil on canvas 90×180 cm 2025  £4295
Earth shine – sometimes referred to as the Da Vinci Glow, the phenomenon has been observed for centuries ….. probably millenia. But Leonardo Da Vinci was the first person to correctly interpret why this phenomenon happens. That it is sunlight reflecting of the Earth and onto the Moon giving off a pale glow.
This painting is from observations and drawings from the 5th October 2024 and has taken 4 months to complete.

New drawing

Over the next few days I’ll be posting a series of new drawings inspired from my love of drawing out doors, and inspired from my interest in astronomy. They are also titled in the original language of Kernow (Cornwal) with a translation into English. The drawings are done using various graphite and charcoal pencils in various grades from 9b to 16b and some become paintings through the use of graphite wash.
