Just finished. In many ways the view itself is irrelevant…..it is merely the structure upon which any inherent meaning emerges. But the aesthetics of that view, how it is put together and structured is very relevant and of course this has a lot to do with our appreciation of beauty. And hints at a deeper pull, we can ask why one thing has an inherent beauty and balance and another not so much. And in this question lies a particularly interesting truth.
The trick is to point this out in such a way that almost it is hidden ….. it is there without the viewer realising it is there.
It can be summed up in this way …. That which is essential is invisible to the eye

Crescent Moon with Earth Shine, Venus – A Temperature Inversion at Sunset Ynysek Syllan Oil on canvas 90×180 cm 2026 £4495

A favorite subject. The Moon is a wonderful subject and contemplating it’s formation and serene movement across the sky. Seeing Earth shine and a bright crescent is a stunning experience and combined with the changing weather makes for a fascinating subject.

New painting – ‘Bwrw Glaw

Bwrw Glaw. Oil on canvas 76×153 cm 2025

Bwrw Glaw Oil on canvas 76×153 cm 2025. £3400
The title is partly in Kernewek but the phrase Bwrw Glaw is also Cymraeg. As a lot of you know I am learning Cymraeg, along the way I am also picking up the odd words in Kernewek (Cornish) which is really fun.
The kernewek word for rain is glaw, and in Cymraeg bwrw glaw is raining or it’s raining and also falling rain.
It is always fascinating to know how close Kernewek and Cymraeg languages are and I have a liking for titling my artworks in the local language, but here with this artwork as well I have an opportunity to title the artwork in both Kernewek and Cymraeg simultaneously ….. thus continuing the centuries old deep connections between Kernow and Cymru. And it gives me the opportunity to play with language ……. much in the same way as the Shetlandic poet Christine De Luca does in her poetry.
The painting is available direct from me and if you live local you are very welcome to pop round and have a look. For more info send me a message via the contact page on this website
